The elder loves his recipients together with all who know the truth, saying that this truth remains in them and will be with them forever. He writes the received command to love one another, connects love with obedience, and requires remaining in Christ’s teaching for fellowship with the Father and Son. This fellowship has a doctrinal boundary: he forbids welcoming teachers who reject the teaching about Christ.
