Peter intends his recipients to keep remembering his teaching after his departure. He explicitly says both his letters remind them of the holy prophets’ earlier words and the Lord and Savior’s commandment through his apostles. Written reminders carry the received teaching beyond the apostle’s presence; these verses do not supply a later list of canonical books.
