Paul says the believers received Christ Jesus the Lord and should walk in him. John speaks of receiving the one who came to his own and became flesh, associating this reception with believing in his name. Receiving a person here is not physical containment. This does not equate receiving Christ with every feature of receiving the Spirit, or assume a claim about Christ’s divine nature.
