Jesus calls the Father his God and the disciples’ God. Later Thomas answers Jesus, My Lord and my God, and Jesus describes his response as belief. The narrative thus preserves Jesus’s relation to his God alongside a God-address directed to Jesus; neither saying is omitted to ease the comparison. The closing purpose names Jesus as the Christ and Son of God.
