When questioned about his learning, Jesus says his teaching belongs to the one who sent him. He contrasts speaking from himself and seeking his own glory with teaching from God and seeking the sender’s glory. This explains a speech-and-mission contrast in the same Gospel; it is not a claim that every occurrence has an identical meaning or a proof of the Spirit’s equal nature.
