The psalm’s suffering speaker says he is poured out like water, describes his bones and thirst, and calls on Yahweh for help. Paul likewise speaks of being poured out on the sacrifice and service of the believers’ faith while rejoicing with them. These are personal speakers described through pouring imagery. Affliction and sacrificial service differ from the Spirit’s bestowal; the comparison concerns the compatibility of the wording with persons, not an identical event or mechanism.
