Paul says the earlier writings were written for our learning and hope. He also says Israel’s failures were written as examples and admonition against evil. Scripture instructs through recorded events and warnings as well as direct commands; reporting misconduct does not recommend it. These applications illustrate the instructional function without independently proving a claim about every biblical book.
