The law brings knowledge of sin rather than justification by its works, while the law and prophets bear witness to the righteousness now revealed. God justifies through redemption in Christ Jesus and his blood, addressing prior sins passed over in divine forbearance. The law’s witness is retained; its inability to justify is not a claim that its commands are sinful.
