The displayed accounts give 1,700 horsemen in Samuel and 7,000 in Chronicles. Brenton’s 1851 English Septuagint translation of 2 Samuel 8:4 instead gives “seven thousand horsemen,” agreeing with Chronicles. This verifies an alternative reading, not which wording is original. The comparison does not alter the displayed Samuel text or resolve the separate Syrians/Edomites difference later in the chapters.
